Lexi's Story
I have been volunteering at the babies’ home for 2 months. I left the UK because God called me to Africa to care for orphaned and abandoned children. I was attracted to Botshabelo because it was a church based project with a great vision. A friend of mine in the UK had worked with Botshabelo and she recommended it as being the right place for the work I wanted to do.
Volunteering in the babies’ home is a wonderful and rewarding experience. You get to know the children so well and have a lot of fun with them. The children are really warm and welcoming to new volunteers, our approaches and ideas. They respond very well to us and I feel like I have already built good, solid relationships with them.
I am enjoying caring for the kids, teaching them and generally being involved in their lives. It is so encouraging to see the progress they make and the way their lives have been transformed by coming to live in the babies’ home.
I see God in the children every day. I see his sustaining power, his love and beauty. Volunteering here is teaching me so much about God, really deepening, and strengthening my relationship with him. My highlight so far is definitely the kids’ spontaneous bursts of worship…particularly when they sing “Happy day!”
