International Volunteers Impact Live's of Orphaned & Abandoned Children

Starting 2010 with Five New International Volunteers… We have five new international volunteers joining Botshabelo in working into the Babies Home and Community Based Childcare. These volunteers join our four existing volunteers making a total of nine volunteers working and residing together in Midrand, South Africa. The volunteers range in age from 17-30 years and represent five nations around the world.  Seven volunteers will be working in our Babies Home, caring for the daily needs of orphaned and abandoned children, some infected with HIV. The Babies Home or Children's Home, many of our children are between 3 and 4 years old, have been affected by the devastation of poverty and HIV/AIDS. Although many of our children are not orphaned, but have family, they do not see these family members regularly and benefit greatly from the love and attention given by our volunteers. Two of Botshabelo's volunteers work off the property with Community Based Childcare, teaching preschool and primary school age children in our local community. These volunteers have the responsibility of creating curriculum and teaching in a classroom environment. Many of Botshabelo's pupils are affected daily by the poverty, crime and injustice that are a reality within South Africa. Some children may even be refugees from neighboring countries and unable to get the resources necessary for education. Therefore, Botshabelo's two international volunteers join our local team in providing education that might otherwise be inaccessible. Lastly, all of our international volunteers, whether working with Community Based Childcare or the Babies Home, are partnering with Bosthabelo in giving hope to children and families in seemingly hopeless situations.

A Big THANK YOU to Gwyn!

Thank you Gwyn for your volunteering with Botshabelo. The last four months have gone fast, but you have made a lasting impression with our orphaned and abandoned children as well as the staff at Botshabelo. Thank you again for who you are and what you brought to the community of Botshabelo and Urban Life Church.  May you keep the South African memories in your heart as you go on to greater things!
