Foster Care Workshop Hosted by Botshabelo

After seeing and hearing about foster care and knowing children who need parents, Botshabelo decided to host a Foster Care Workshop in July.

The foster care workshop covered many topics in order to bring awareness.  The topics included; legal issues, the differences between respite care and permanent foster care, training opportunities and support groups.

There are many options and choices available for families interested in welcoming a child into their home on a permanent or short term basis.

Some people respond to the desire to foster by providing respite care or offering to babysit for families fostering permanently.  Others may choose to foster for a few years or want to parent the child forever.  Overall, there are options and the Foster Care Workshop exposed people to their choices.

There is a growing awareness in South Africa regarding the benefits of foster care.  This has given way to many people deciding to open their homes and hearts to otherwise orphaned or abandoned children.  Therefore, there are networks of families who meet together and provide each other encouragement, support and understanding.

Foster care is an amazing privilege which impacts a child’s life.  It is a chance to give a child the love and individual attention they need.  It is an opportunity to love them as God loves us.

The Foster Care Workshop went well and Botshabelo was excited to see so many attend who are interested in getting involved.
