Botshabelo Babies Home
Botshabelo Babies Home addresses the needs of abandoned, abused and HIV-infected babies. The facility was opened in March of 2000.
A total of 100 babies have been cared for by the Babies Home by Nov 2009, many of whom have come from dire situations. One baby was found in a field in the middle of winter, another was found dumped in a black plastic bag under a bridge, whilst another was found, half dressed wandering by a highway.
We have a team of caring, trained workers who love these babies and provide a warm, secure and nurturing environment for them. These full time workers are assisted by local and international volunteers.
The aim is to settle these babies into home situations; either back to their own relatives or with adoptive or foster parents. Many have been able to do just that, but for those older children who will not be adopted and will stay with us for the long term, we have built the first ‘Home of Destiny’. The ‘Home of Destiny’ is a purpose built house for 4-6 children who, along with a house mom, live there in a family setting. We plan to open our second home of destiny early in 2010!
