67 Square Metres FILLED for Mandela

On the 18th of July 2014, we witnessed something entirely beautiful! A whole community coming together – businesses, individuals, families and friends – committed to making a difference!

We looked at our 67 square metres at the beginning of the day on Mandela Day and thought quietly to ourselves…surely its impossible to fill this WHOLE space? But as Mandela said, “It always seems impossible until it’s done” – this statement rings truer in our ears than ever before. Why? Because at the end of the day…every inch of our 67 squares was FILLED for Mandela…nappies, formula, toiletries, clothes, food, educational equipment, stationery and more. We were blow away by the incredible generosity of our community and their selfless acts of kindness for children and families they may never meet.

Our property was buzzing from 8am right up until we started packing the donations away at 4pm! Music, great coffee, cupcakes, finger prints, photographs, and of course, finding out what Botshabelo is all about! Our voices were hoarse at the end of it, our hearts buoyed by the generosity of others and our square filled…and then began the 90 minute-long pack away session…kids and adults alike making sure the stuff is kept safe and ready to be distributed to families in need.

The very next day we had 4 food parcels go out into our community to families in desperate need of help. That same week we stocked the Babies Home pantry with everything we need for a few months to come…our shopping bill has been reduced dramatically. Urban Kids, and the Training Programme swiftly came up and raided their goodies – 20 Graduation Packs set out, teachers given equipment they need in their classrooms, and groceries ready for the children’s snacks. WOW…there’s still more to give to those in need, there’s still more people that we can reach with YOUR donations!

We will never grow tired of watching South Africa join hands on Mandela Day, and throughout the year, to bless and bestow dignity on those that need it most. What a privilege it is to have front row seats as we watch our country changing…one, beautiful, small, kind and caring act a time!

If you joined us for Mandela Day – THANK YOU! We can never thank you enough for your kindness, and for choosing to support Botshabelo. We hope you enjoyed your time with us, it was an honour to meet you! We hope to see you next year…or better yet…every so often UNTIL next year!

There’s a lot of them, but check out the photos of the day…we hope we got everyone’s face in one of our photos! And…check out the square filled to the brim!
