Michele McCrohan is a long-term volunteer from Australia, she has come to pour her passion, expertise and love into the teachers we are training. Michele has been integral in starting up the new, more effective format of our Training Programme and has done so well, we are blessed to have her with us.
At the end of last year she started up her Blook Drive…where, though the donations of friends and family from Australia, she has been able to Blook Up preschools. What does this mean? It means that Michele has raised money to give story books and building blocks to each of the preschools that we are working with! Here’s some feedback from Michele on our Training Programme and the Blook Drive:
We are nearly half way through Term 2, and this week’s session was extra special. The proceeds from our Blook Drive allowed us to present each of our centres with a set of 25 books to use with their children. The training focused on how to care for the books, how to use both non-fiction and fiction books in teaching, and identifying different parts of a book.
There was a lot of time given to storytelling, and the trainees took turns reading to each other. There were wide smiles from everyone as they carried their books out at the end of the session!
Our on-site visits are becoming more frequent, due to the addition of Penny Muller and Linda Mthethwa to our team of trainers. The trainees are benefiting from more intensive support within their centres and we are seeing some wonderful improvements in the quality of education offered to their children.
In the coming weeks we will be distributing more equipment, including wooden blocks and a range of puzzles, which will be valuable additions to the centres’ curriculums.
