Riding for the Babies Home in 2014

It feels like just yesterday that we were so delighted with our very first “#PurplePeloton” completing the 2013 Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge in such grand purple style!

It all started with a huge passion for our Teacher Training programme and the ever present need for funding. The 2013 project turned out to be an unbelievable success. We realised then that this race made such an impact on the community and it was such a privilege to be part of it that it was a no-brainer that we absolutely had to continue the #PurplePeloton legacy in 2014. This year however, we want to push the envelope by raising more money, getting more people involved and simply put: build on the fantastic foundation that was laid down last year; and that is exactly where YOU come in…

As you may know, Botshabelo is a multi-faceted charity supporting different parts of our community in different ways. Last year our riders raised money for the Teacher Training programme and this year we want the “Ride for a Future” campaign to be all about our wonderful Babies Home. The home takes care of between 12 and 15 abused and abandoned babies at a time to ensure that each of those precious little ones can look forward to a brilliant future. By supporting this fantastic cause in 2014, you will no doubt help us invest in their futures, as we give them the best start in life!

Here’s how things stand at the moment: Botshabelo’s Charity Bond has been registered for the 2014 Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge and now we need to have at least 20 riders entered into our bond within one month, which means we only have about another two weeks left to fill up those 20 spots!

How can you help? You have three options:

Best case scenario: TAKE THE PLUNGE and ENTER THE RACE NOW! Make sure you register as part of the Ride for a Purpose campaign (using Michelle Hinrichsen’s name as reference for the Botshabelo team on the entry form). That gives you a whole 8 months to reach your fundraising target (a mere R2 500) – not to mention to start your training! Most exciting news of all is that by entering before the end of March you could win R10 000 for yourself as well as R50 000 for Botshabelo! That is a fantastic reason to enter NOW if you were ever looking for one but if you don’t make the “Early Bird” deadline we definitely still need YOU on our team!

The next thing you could consider doing is sponsoring a rider and help them reach their fundraising target. This means you will be contributing to this awesome cause without even breaking a sweat!

Finally, you can help us get as many people as possible involved in either riding in the #PurplePeloton or sponsoring our riders. The more riders we are, the bigger our impact will be on the day and obviously the more money we will raise. Ask around in your spinning class, at school or at the office. Cyclists are shy creatures and often go into hiding this time of year so make it your mission to find them and recruit them for Botshabelo now!

Thanks so much to everyone who has already signed up for the (Cycle) challenge –we know this year’s campaign is going to be kilometres of fun (94.7km to be exact!) and we can’t wait to get started!
