It feels a bit like we have been spinning from day 1 of 2014, and yet it’s only just gone March!! Here’s a peek into our Babies Home over the past 2 months, but may I warn you, brace yourself…a lot has happened!!
Our beautiful girl, oldest in the home is blossoming as she started Big School in January! At the end of last year she graduated from Grade R, and is now attending Grade 1 at a local school. She always looks smart in her sweet little uniform, albeit largely oversized at this point!! We are in awe that she has not lost her lunch box that came all the way from the USA for her…she is most definitely a responsible young girl! We now have homework books and bits of uniform, school newsletters and the like floating around our home – a new deal for all of us! We are so proud of this little gem – she is doing so well!
And then, we have had quite the case of “one in, one out” recently! The same day that we waved our goodbyes to Mr S, we got a phone call saying that Baby E needs a home and would we take her…guess what? She arrived just a few days later! E was born at only 28 weeks, and so was in hospital for just about 3 months. She is 3 months old and is still drowning in newborn clothes…she is tiny!! Tiny, but happy! E has settled so well in our home and is healthy – we are excited to see her destiny changed forever, she will find a Forever Family and we know hers is going to be a beautiful story!
Another “one in, one out” is our Babies Home Manager position…Audrey Goodsir has served faithfully at Botshabelo for about a year, and now we have to wave a sad goodbye to her. Audrey is moving on, we are sad to see her go, but so grateful for her input into out organisation. Audrey stepped in and has loved our children, sorted our admin out, helped get our Second Hand Store off the ground and so much more. She has been a delight to work with, and we wish her the very best in her new endeavours! Nicky Martin, who has been around Botshabelo for a while, but not on staff, is now officially part of our staff compliment! We are thrilled to have her join our team as Babies Home Manager and thankful for God’s provision of the right people at the right time. Welcome to the team Nicky – we know you will be an asset to our Babies Home and we already love working with you! And of course, lest we forget, we welcomed Jenni Bremner, our General Manager, back from maternity leave in February. She stepped into a whirlwind and has been thoroughly caught up…
We are so thankful for the passionate, generous and above-and-beyond heart of all our staff at Botshabelo – we couldn’t do it without each one of you! Thank you!
I told you to brace yourself…because I’m not done yet…nearly, but not yet! Just this week we had the privilege of placing yet another child in his Forever Family’s arms…what a joy it is! K is 1 and a bit, a strong, stocky and generally big boy! He has grown quickly over the last few months; we have watched him take his first steps, finally able to keep up with the older kids in the home! And now, we get to see him take his best, most exciting steps yet…into his family’s arms! Adoption is a beautiful thing and the bond between child and parent happens so quickly it can only be called a miracle! K’s destiny changed when he came to us, but that was just the stepping-stone…he’s got a family now, a place to call home, forever!! It doesn’t get any better…
Ok, I think we’re done…tired yet? And that’s just 2 months in our Babies Home…don’t get me started on the Second Hand store, the School and Training…things are happening here! Join us on the journey, it sure is exciting!!
P.s. In case all this isn’t enough, we’ve got to give a standing ovation to our caregivers and staff…because all this has happened while our home has been under some major renovations!! Watch this space for that blog!!
