Volunteers Uplifting Lives…

Thursday, 20th of February…what a day!!
We had over 50 volunteers arrive at Botshabelo, eager, excited and ready for some dirty work in Olievenhoutbosch! Here’s their story…

In December, World Ventures Members hosted a “Braai for a Purpose” – braaing together and collecting donations for Botshabelo. This sparked inspiration to continue and strengthen a partnership. And so at the end of January a couple from World Ventures approached Botshabelo to outline how they would like to make a difference in schools that we are working with. We decided on a date, connected them to Sizanani Day Care (a preschool we are working with in our Training Programme) and whoosh…away ran the plans from all of us!

What started as “we think we’ll have about 20 volunteers, and we’ll see what we can do at Sizanani” ended with, 50 volunteers, 2 TV interviews, a radio interview, a trip to the zoo for the Sizanani kids, new wall murals (thanks to Prettify your Township), chalkboards, tiled and painted kitchen and toilets, and so much more!! They even got to painting a foster home run by community leader, Asnath, whom we work closely with! So yes, what a day it was!! The school was transformed, the kids were given beautiful memories and came back to a school they can most certainly take pride in! Lives were truly changed… Thank you to the World Ventures team! You all gathered your resources that you had around you and brought your bit forward – look what it did!! We look forward to more of this in the future!

Now, you’re reading this and thinking, that’s a sweet story – it is!! But, its more than that, its an example – there is so much we can all do and when we add it all together, it works out to a whole lot more than we bargained for! So, may we encourage you, gather your friends, family and colleagues and why not “Braai for a Purpose” or together sponsor a child’s school fees. Or maybe your company is looking for somewhere to send resources and staff to make a difference, why not nominate Botshabelo – we sure would be grateful – there’s a lot of work to do out there!!
